Inevitably you’ll be asked in your first meeting about your staffing requirements. After all, you can’t do everything yourself. So think through what you really need and separate that from the ‘nice to have but inessential staffing’.
Do you really need a full-time personal assistant when a part-time one might suffice?
Do you need an in-house marketing manager in the early stages when perhaps it could usefully be outsourced and avoid the desk and office space, NHI and PAYE issues?
So whatever your staffing line-up that you’re envisaging (after receiving funding), be prepared to justify your assumptions to the potential investor. After all, before reaching profitability it’s our money that’ll be funding your payroll!
